The classic charm and pageantry of The Nutcracker hits the stage in Toronto for its 10th annual performance. This year will be featuring guest artists from the world-renowned Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, principal dancers Vyacheslav Lopatin and Anastasia Stashkevich.Based on the classical version of the Nutcracker, which is performed by the world’s top ballet companies. Artistic Director Tatiana Stepanova has retained the ballet’s traditional beauty, enhancing it with her innovative vision and unique choreography.

Based on the poems of Joseph Brodsky Directed by Alvis Hermanis Performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov BRODSKY / BARYSHNIKOV is a one-man theatrical performance that gives voice and verse to the poetry of Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky, performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Conceived and directed by Alvis Hermanis, noted Latvian director of The New Riga Theatre, BRODSKY / BARYSHNIKOV is a synthesis of word and action, an emotional journey deep into the poet’s visceral and complex compositions. Performed in Russian, Brodsky’s mother tongue, Baryshnikov recites a selection of his long-time friend’s poignant and eloquent works. His subtle physicality transports the audience into Hermanis’ reverent imagining of Brodsky’s interior world.

From acclaimed playwright-director Jordan Tannahill (Concord Floral; Botticelli in the Fire and Sunday in Sodom), Declarations is an ode to mortality - that of the playwright's mother, his own, mankind's - a joyful and moving attempt to capture the objects, sensations, and experiences that make up a life. Through a lyrical text and choreographed physical score, five performers chronicle a life pulled through time, encountering meteorological phenomena, mythology, political calamity, pop culture, and everyday happenstance along the way. What accumulates is a staggering archive of images, sense memories and voices asserting that here lived, for a time, a woman.
